Dirr's Tree and Shrub Finder App Reviews

Great book, sorry excuse for use on my ipad

Having the book at home and using it extensively, I was greatly disappointed at the lack of full screen implementation on the ipad. It must look great on the ipod touch or iphone, but it certainly is a waste of time and money to attempt using on the ipad. Sorry folks, it has to work quite a bit better to be worth the price.

Amazing

Amazing application, I have used the book and this has color pictures along with some easier ways to find the information youre looking for, also $15 is cheaper than the $100 book and the book doesnt have pictures or list by common name, also this is only the weight of an iPhone lol. I like it, great resource for school and for work as well.

Most useful tool!

As an Extension Educator, this is my Most Used horticultural app. Its a combination of Dirrs Manual and his Photographic Manual. I use this almost every day. Much easier to bring out to field than the 1000 page book. Typing in the name is much faster than scrolling through all the pages. Highly recommended!

Need iPad support

Its great to have Dirrs book in the field. Still waiting for an iPad update or iPad version!

I find most of the bad reviews unfounded. 1) it was never designed for ipad. you are not gonna gave your ipad in your pocket while you work, but your iphone probably would be there. 2) what might be a plant that is a common planting in your area nay not be popular anywhere else. I have a degree in horticulture and work with trees and shrubs for a living and I find it very useful. It has the Genus, species, and common name. those are all you need to find what you are looking for. I have most of his books also. dont count on an update soon, as Dirr writes books not apps and the app is based off of his books some that do not have pictures. this is really designed for EDUCATED people in the industry, not know it all landscapers with no formal education.

Excellent resource but needs minor refinement

As a degreed horticulturist I believe this app is essential to anyone who consistently references Dirrs big brown book and would like his plethora of information at his/her fingertips. Its likely the most expensive app Ive purchased over the years, but well worth the price considering the book costs nearly 100 dollars. A few refinements that could be made: more higher quality pictures, the ability to snap pictures then import them to the appropriate plant, searching by deer resistance and fixing the occasional frozen screen I get when using the app. With these refinements and an update of the newest cultivars and hybrids, this could easily be a five star app!

Poor Quality

Dont waste your money. The App should be exceptional for what it costs, but instead you get poor quality, subjective information in a lousy package.

Great app

I use this all the time. In my office designing on site talking with customers. It would great if I could add my own photos. It would also be nice if I could add other cultivars and info

Book as an app

Good app has great information, but would like the favorites list to be alfibitized, if it were I could scroll through my favorite plants faster & easier.

Will not install

I have 1.7 gigs and it says not enough storage. I hope they dont charge me for this since the download does not work. How do I get a refund if they do?!

4 YEARS NO UPDATES

Need I say more ... Yes, great resource but just like millions of other reference books receive updates periodically, this app should as well. Add more photos!!! Is that too much to ask.

Needs to be updated

While the book is fantastic, the app leaves quite a bit to be desired. There are only a few pictures with many many plants there. Also each time you return to the app you have to start over. It should be able to pick up where you left off. I find it very disconcerting to have an app that hasnt been updated in many years. Please update!

Save your $

Very disappointed. Search feature keeps freezing up, so its pretty useless. And even if it did work, for the money, it should have more features and flexibility.

Never been updated

This was great whem it came out but it has NEVER been updated. Never. It appears that it is unstable under iOS9. If you run anything modern save your money for the book. This app is abandonware and should not be in the store. Great in 2011 but its 2015...

Time for an update

Nice app full of plenty of great information. Im a field guide person, but having one on the phone is handy if not to say modern. But, please update date the app to current smart phone formats and standards.

Ok

Missing photos of some of the more common species / cultivars.

Do not waste your money

No updates. Outdated, limited images, limited plants. Those that are in this app arent the best images or poor quality and the app can be hard to navigate. You can find all of what youre looking for online for free. Many university website and corporate growers have been making incredible plant libraries with great detail and images. Buy the book if you want to gain the basic knowledge. This app was clearly put up based on his name recognition in the industry but was poorly done. My excitement went from a 10 to a zero instantly. Wish someone would have told me this before I bought this ridiculous priced app.
